Noncourse Learning Experiences
A number of IUSM experiences occurring outside of typical classroom activities
are awarded competency credit at various levels. For details, see the following
descriptions.
MS I Week 1
The first week of medical school at the Indianapolis campus introduces students
to IUSM’s competency-based curriculum. In addition to attending Gross Anatomy
class, CPR training, and fit-testing, students will begin learning about and
experiencing the nine competencies through participation in carefully designed
activities using case-based scenarios.
Intersessions
During the clinical years of medical training educational experiences are divided
into three clerkship blocks. Two days of focused multi-disciplinary intersessions
are scheduled for each block. Many competency-related activities are included in
intersession training.
