D. Craig Brater, M.D.
Dean of the IU School of Medicine and
Walter J. Daly Professor |
As the Indiana University School of Medicine strives to meet its goals for
excellence, our frame of reference is to train students and residents to be the
kinds of doctors—and people—that you would want taking care of you and your
loved ones. Nothing is more important than to ensure that our graduates meet
the highest standards of preparation and professionalism as they move into the
next stage of their lives.
We are proud of the fact that our school is a leader in implementing a set of
competencies that our faculty agreed our learners must master. We have
incorporated them into the fabric of our educational process. The School
certifies—and patients should expect—that our graduates have these skills and
behaviors.
We continually consider how best to teach these skills and assess how well
students have mastered them. The competency curriculum pushes both the School
and its learners to do a better job than ever before.
